What are the three most memorable books/stories you were assigned to read in high school (or the equivalent)? They don't have to be your favorites, just the ones that stuck with you. For example, mine would be The Great Gatsby (despised it, and then had to read it every year in HS and on through college), "The Yellow Wallpaper" and "The Lottery".
Basically we're having a debate over whether particular works are actually commonly assigned and therefore commonly known. :)
